Create, Select, & Update a View

Overview

In Enscape it is possible to create and save pre-defined Views and then link those Views to a Settings Preset that have been Saved to the Project.

The basic procedure to create a view is:

Choose the camera view position in the Enscape Viewport
Position the sun (optional)
Click the Create View button

You will find the Create View button located in the View Management area of the Enscape Viewport toolbar. This means that you must have Enscape running and the Enscape Viewport in focus.

If you need to delete a View at any point, this is always performed via Rhino

Once you have clicked the View Management button, the associated panel will open where you will see a Search field, 2 View categories; Favorites and Project Name (the second being a dynamic category that is replaced with the open CAD project name), and the Create View button.

Create View in Enscape

You can create a View directly in Enscape or via Rhino. What follows is the method for achieving this directly in Enscape, and the methods for achieving this in Rhino.

You have decided on a position in your project you would like to create a View from. Once you have also set any camera specific settings or Visual Settings, including applying styles to the projects geometry in Rhino, click the Create button. This will open the Create View panel where you will be prompted to provide the CAD View Name, as well as optionally Mark the View as a Favorite, and use the Linked Visual Preset option, which is discussed here.

If you haven’t named the View, the Create button will not be available. So, name the View first which will allow you to click the Create button to save your first View in Enscape.

Click the left pointing arrow / chevron located to the left of Edit View to go back to View Management panel. Or, click the X to the right of Edit View to close down the View Management panel altogether.

Create a View in Rhino

In addition to being able to create a View within Enscape, it is also possible to create the View directly in Rhino itself.

Open Rhino’s Named View window, click on the + button in the Named Views window.

You will then be presented with a dialogue box requesting that you name that view. Name the view and click Apply to close the window. Your view will be created and visible in the Named Views Panel.

Another way to create a view in Rhino is to right click on the Named Views Panel and click on Create Named View Using Widget…

Rhino will then ask you to pick your Target. This can be seen in Rhino’s command line section, where the word ‘Target’ is displayed, indicating that you need to select the focal point of a camera.

Once you have selected your target, Rhino will then ask you for the camera location. You will see the word ‘Location’ displayed in the Rhino command line, and a camera, with its viewport dimensions will be displayed in the Rhino Viewports:

After selecting the camera location, you will then be prompted to define the lens length.

Once the lens length has been set, the view will be created and this will appear in Rhino’s Named Views Panel under the name you specified.

Top Tip!
When creating a view from within Rhino, if Synchronize Views is enabled, this will result in the vertical frustum of the camera being used. This information can also be seen in the Enscape Visual Settings next to the Field of View option. This Vertical or Horizontal frustum is then saved along with the View and will be respected, even when Synchronize Views is disabled when the view is selected from the View Management list at a later date.

Select & Update a View in Rhino

To select a view when using Rhino, you can either select via the Enscape View Management panel, or via Rhino’s Named Views dialog. Updating is performed in the Rhino Named Views dialog, where you need to save the view after updating it.

To update a view with a new position, click the Edit Button on the view you would like to update:

You should now see a section called Camera. This is where you will have a section for the X, Y, Z , Orientation, Pitch and Yaw

*Pitch = degrees up and down

*Yaw is the degree in rotation

Once you start moving around in the Enscape window to the new desired position, you will see all these values updated.

*If you want to undo this, simply click the undo button and it will revert back to the original position.

Once you are happy with the new position of the view, simply click the Save Button at the bottom of the menu and the new changes will be reflected in Rhino view as well.
